I have loved teaching my “English as a Second Language” class this summer at Lane Community College. There were students from eleven different countries in the class, which was an advanced grammar and communication class. We spoke English, learned some grammar, and had some fun with communication and culture. In the final class (before the review and the test!) my musician friend Craig Einhorn came to class for a question and answer period, and the class learned and then sang a rousing rendition of “Help,” by the Beatles. Very fun, very good singing, fantastic guitar playing. Craig is married to Diana, who is in my class, and who is standing next to him at the left of the picture. Diana is from Buenos Aires, and Monica and I have gotten together with her quite a bit to talk about life in Argentina. I plan to return to LCC to teach again next summer. Until then, I will miss the students and the teachers. See you guys when I get back! Mike.

Three weeks before we leave for South America, and we felt a little pressure to go out and do some “Oregon” things before takeoff. The hot dog days of summer came around, so we drove up to the Middle Fork of the North Fork of the Willamette River, to the Aufderheide Highway. We found a swimming hole up there a few years back, and have tried to get up there at least once a summer. It’s a big, deep hole in between two sets of rapids, with frreeezing cold water. We went there with our camp chairs and pillows, our cooler, and our book, and we spent all afternoon by the river. We went swimming and we watched the fish jumping. A lovely Oregon day.
